Pikku Kirsten istui myöhään valveilla, kun käki kukkui vihreässä metsässä. Pikku Kirsten hyräili laulua samalla kun kutoi kapioitaan. Pikku Kirsten istui ikkunan ääressä ja katseli kultaista sormustaan, katsoi alas mustaa paitaansa ja hymyili mietteissään. Pikku Kirsten lepuutti päätään lumivalkeaa pellavaliinaa vasten. Ja tuomi tuoksui, kun Kirsten uneksi rakkaimmastaan. Pikku Kirsten aukaisi kultaiset hiuksensa ja meni levolle. Pikku Kirsten pani pienet kätensä ristiin ja käki kukkui ulkona metsässä.
