In dem Herzen ein Bild, Das so lieb und so schön, Das so süß und so mild, Wie noch keins ich geseh'n. In dem Aug' eine Thrän', Die, von Sehnsucht geweint, Wie vom Himmel gesandt Mir als Tröst'rin erscheint. In dem Busen ein Lied, Das gefühlt meine Noth, Das noch nie mich verrieth, Das mir treu bis zum Tod. Habe nichts auf der Erd', Bin dem Bettler fast gleich, Doch die Thrän' halt' ich werth, Und das Lied macht mich reich. Doch noch reicher das Bild, Das, geliebt und geehrt, Mich mit Thränen erfüllt, Und das Lied mich gelehrt.
