Ich pflückte eine kleine Pfirsichblüte
Und brachte sie der schönen jungen Frau,
Die Lippen hat -- o rosiger, beim Himmel,
Und zarter als die feinsten Pfirsichblüten.

Und eine schwarze Schwalbe fing ich ein
Und brachte sie der schönen jungen Frau,
Die Augenbrauen hat, so schlank und dunkel
Wie einer Schwalbe schlankes Flügelpaar.

Am andern Tage war die Pfirsichblüte
Verwelkt, die Schwalbe aber war [entflohen]1
In jene fernen blauen Berge, wo 
Der Genius der Pfirsichblüten wohnt.

Jedoch der Mund der schönen jungen Frau
Blieb süß und rosig, wie er voher glänzte,
Und ihrer Augenbrauen Flügelpaar
Flog nicht davon und ziert sie immerzu.

Cadeaux d'amoureux

J'ai cueilli une petite fleur de pêcher
Et l'ai apportée à une belle jeune femme,
Ses lèvres, par le ciel, étaient plus rouges
Et plus délicates que la plus fine fleur de pêcher.

Et je trouvai une hirondelle noire
Et l'ai apportée à la belle jeune fille,
Ses sourcils était aussi fins et sombres
Que les ailes élancées d'une hirondelle.

Et puis un jour la fleur de pêcher
Se fana, et l'hirondelle s'envola
Au loin, vers ces montagnes bleues,
Où habite le génie des fleurs de pêcher.

Pourtant la bouche de la belle jeune femme
Resta douce et rouge et brillait comme auparavant
Et les ailes de ses sourcils
Ne s'envolèrent point et la parent à jamais.
