Nun klingen Lieder 
Von allen Zweigen, 
Die Blumen blühen 
In duft'ger Pracht; 
Da will auch Liebe 
Nicht länger schweigen, 
Die ihr Geheimniß 
Bis heut bewacht. 

Sie flüstert's leise 
Ins Ohr den Rosen, 
Vertraut's den Vöglein 
Im Laubgezelt, 
Singt's in die Lüfte, 
Die sie umkosen 
Und jauchzt es selig 
In alle Welt.

3. Der stille Trinker  [sung text not yet checked]

Sie schwenkten die Kannen
Und priesen die Mädchen,
Marien und Annen,
Lieschen  und Kätchen.
Nur einer sass in der Ecke allein,
Stumm, beim Wein;
Der [musste]1 wohl ohne Liebchen sein. 

Die Wächter riefen
Und bliesen Zwei;
Die Zecher schliefen
Auf Stroh und Heu. 
Der stille Trinker allein nicht schlief,
Stand auf und lief --
Wohin? -- Weiss [ich's]2? -- Stille Wasser sind tief!

Herbst ist gekommen, 
Frühling ist weit --
Gab es denn einmal 
Selige Zeit?

Brauende Nebel 
Geisten umher,
Schwarz ist das Kraut 
Und der Himmel so leer.

Wär' ich nur hier nicht 
Gegangen im Mai!
Leben und Liebe -- 
Wie flog es vorbei!
