Wund von den Pfeilen, die es trafen:
Kennst du die Sehnsucht in der Nacht?

Ein Schatten kommt -- du fühlst den Schimmer,
Du rufst ihn -- da zerfließt er sacht.
Und bis zum Morgen schläfst du nimmer:
Kennst du die Sehnsucht in der Nacht!?

Hoch oben im leuchtenden Blau,
Er schaute aus ewigen Fernen
Herab auf mich einsame Frau.

Es standen so träumend die Felder,
So lockend die Berge umher,
Da flog meine Sehnsucht zum Adler,
Zog weitere Kreise als er.
