Wenn durch die Piazetta
Die Abendluft weht,
[Dann]1 weißt du, Ninetta,
Wer wartend [hier]2 steht.
Du weißt, wer trotz Schleier
Und Maske dich kennt,
[Wie Amor die Venus
Am Nachtfirmament.]3

Ein Schifferkleid trag' ich
Zur selbigen Zeit,
Und zitternd dir sag' ich:
„Das Boot [liegt]4 bereit!
[O, komm’! jetzt, wo Lune’n]5
Noch Wolken umziehn,
Laß durch die Lagunen,
[Mein Leben,]6 uns fliehn!“

Wie dein Auge, holde Maid,
Denn dein Aug' strahlt Seligkeit. 

Wonne strömet durch die Adern, 
Freude jubelt in der Brust; 
Jedes Leid und jede Klage 
Wird verdrängt durch süße Lust; 
Ja, es ist dort Seligkeit, 
Wo dein Aug' strahlt, holde Maid. 

Nimmer sollten Phöbus Strahlen 
In mein sehnend Auge glühn, 
Und im bunten Schmelz die Blumen 
Meinem Blick entgegenblühn, 
Lächelt mir von dieser Zeit 
Nur dein Auge, holde Maid.
