In dieser weiten Ferne?

Will ruhen hier an des Baches Rand,
Wo [duftige Blümlein]4 sprießen.
Wer hat euch Blümlein, [hieher]5 gesandt?
Seid ihr ein [herzliches]6 Liebespfand
Aus der Ferne von meiner Süßen?

Erwacht, mit trunknen Blicken,
Wie wer aus Wolken fiel,

Den Sänger mit dem Spiel.
 
Er schwindet um die Bäume,
Noch hör ich fernen Klang.
Ob der die Wunderträume
Mir in die Seele sang?

Wie liegt die Welt so ferne 
Mit ihrer Lust und Pein!
Vom Himmel nur die Sterne 
Schaun ernst und still darein;
Die Seufzer und Beschwerden 
Sind alle längst verweht,
Selbst unsre Küsse werden
Ein stammelndes Gebet!
