Fünf Lieder

Song Cycle by Manfred Frischknecht (b. 1937)

1. Die Stunde
 (Sung text)

Language: German (Deutsch)
Es war noch Zeit; ich konnte gehn,
Und alles wäre ungeschehn,
Und alles wäre rein und klar,
Wie es vor jenem Tage war!

Es mußte sein. Die Stunde kam,
Die kurze, schwüle, und sie nahm
Unwandelbar mit jähem Schritt
Den ganzen Glanz der Jugend mit.

Text Authorship:

  • by Hermann Hesse (1877 - 1962), "Die Stunde", written 1901

2. Es wird dir sonderbar erscheinen
 (Sung text)

Language: German (Deutsch)
Es wird dir sonderbar erscheinen,
Daß ich zuweilen wie ein Knabe
Nicht schlafen kann vor lautem Weinen
Und bitterlich das Heimweh habe,

Und daß ich tagelang in Träumen
Hinschlendre mit geheimem Leid
An fremden, stillen Gartensäumen,
Gedenkend meiner Kinderzeit ...

Text Authorship:

  • by Hermann Hesse (1877 - 1962), "Es wird dir sonderbar erscheinen --", written 1900

3. Huldigung
 (Sung text)

Language: German (Deutsch)
Schöne, Liebe, die du alle Klagen
Meiner ruhelosen Seele stillst,
Alles Schwere will ich gerne tragen,
Wenn nur du mich nicht verlassen willst.

Meiner heißen Jugend Flammen steigen
Jeden Tag zu einem wilden Brand,
Um sich dankbar und beglückt zu neigen
Einem Winke deiner weißen Hand.

Text Authorship:

  • by Hermann Hesse (1877 - 1962), "Huldigung", written 1906

4. Mit einem Liederheft
 (Sung text)

Language: German (Deutsch)
Nun bückst du dich nieder
Und machst die Schleife los,
Nun liegen meine Lieder
In deinem seidenen Schoß.

Nun treten die Fehle
Einer vergangenen Zeit
Vor deine erschrockene Seele.
Ich aber reise schon weit.

  • by Hermann Hesse (1877 - 1962), "Mit einem Liederheft", written 1900

5. Rücknahme
 (Sung text)

Language: German (Deutsch)
Ich sagte nicht: ich liebe dich.
Ich sagte nur: gib mir die Hand
Und dulde mich!

Mir schien, du wärest mir verwandt,
Du wärst so jung und gut, wie ich...
- Ich sagte nicht: ich liebe dich.
