Vier Italienlieder für mittlere Stimme nach Hermann Hesse

Song Cycle by Ludwig Helmuth Walter Kusche (1901 - 1982)

1. Im Norden
 (Sung text)

Language: German (Deutsch)
Soll ich sagen, was ich träume
An beglänzten, sonnenstillen
Hügeln Haine dunkler Bäume,
Gelbe Felsen, weiße Villen.

Eine Stadt im Tal gelegen,
Eine Stadt mit marmorweißen
Kirchen leuchtet mir entgegen,
Und sie ist Florenz geheißen.

Und in einem alten Garten,
Eingehegt von schmalen Gassen,
Muß das Glück noch auf mich warten,
Das ich dort zurückgelassen.

  • by Hermann Hesse (1877 - 1962), "Im Norden", written 1901, appears in Neue deutsche Lyriker III , in Süden, first published 1919

2. Ich bin auch in Ravenna gewesen
 (Sung text)

Language: German (Deutsch)
Ich bin auch in Ravenna gewesen,
Ist eine kleine, tote Stadt,
Die Kirchen und viel Ruinen hat,
Man kann davon in den Büchern lesen.

Du gehst hindurch und schaust dich um,
Die Straßen sind so trüb und naß
Und sind so tausendjährig stumm,
Und überall wächst Moos und Gras!

Das ist wie alte Lieder sind,
Man hört sie an und keiner lacht
Ein jeder lauscht und jeder sinnt
Hernach daran bis in die Nacht.

Text Authorship:

  • by Hermann Hesse (1877 - 1962), no title, written 1901, appears in Unterwegs, in Ravenna (1901), no. 1, first published 1911

3. Gebet der Schiffer
 (Sung text)

Language: German (Deutsch)
Die Stunden eilen -- Mitternacht!
Am Himmel ist nicht Mond, nicht Stern.
Ob unsrer Reise halte Wacht,
Madonna, Mutter unsres Herrn!

Die Stunden eilen. Bank und Riff
Sind nah. Madonna, lenke du
Durch Sturm und Mitternacht das Schiff
Dem Hafen und der Heimat zu!

Die Stunden eilen ohne Rast.
Madonna des Erbarmens du,
Die du den Herrn geboren hast,
Hilf uns dereinst zur ewigen Ruh!

4. Padua
 (Sung text)

Language: German (Deutsch)
Fast eine deutsche Stadt, so eng gebaut,
Gassen und Giebel dämmerig vertraut.

Hier möcht ich Stunden, Tage, Wochen viel
Verträumen und verschlendern ohne Ziel.

Hier möcht ich sorgenlos an schöner Brust
Vertändeln einer leichten Liebe Lust.

Hier möcht ich bleiben - wäre drüben nicht
Ostwärts die freie Luft so seltsam licht.

Dort weiß ich warten zauberhaft und hell
Mein Ziel - Venedig! Und ich reise schnell.

Text Authorship:

  • by Hermann Hesse (1877 - 1962), "Padua", written 1901
