Der Himmel ist so weit und hehr, Die Heide ist so menschenleer; Tief in ihr junges Grün hinein Leg ich der Toten den Strauß hinein Im Deingedenken. Wie muß in dieser Welt allein Dein Herz so gut gewesen sein Und tapfer und lieben Wollens voll, Das in sein Blut hinüber-quoll Zu reichem Leben. Ich setz mich nieder ins linde Grün Und seh die Vogelschwingen ziehn In blauen Äther hinein Und sing dir leise mit lichtem Ton Von deinem großen Sohn.

Le ciel est si vaste et si majestueux, La lande est si déserte ; Au fond de la verdure fraîche là Je pose un bouquet funèbre En ton honneur.
