by Nikolai Maksimovich Vilenkin (1855 - 1937), as Nikolai Maksimovich Minsky
Translation Singable translation by J. von Lagin

Im Wirbelwind
(Sung text for setting by A. Gretchaninov)
 See base text

Er scheucht das Laub im Wirbeldreh'n;
O, wie voll Leid vom Wurzelpfühl
Sie flogen auf, wie Schattenspiel,
Rings um den Baum in Abschiedsqual
Zum letzten Mal.

Ein Windstoß noch, und all vermengt
Im Tanz des Todes eng sich drängt,
Und Laub und Regen, Staub und Reif,
Mit Droh'n, schrill tobendem Gepfeif,
Der Herbsteswirbel trag's hinaus
In Nacht und graus.
