Es waren zwei Königskinder,
Die hatten einander so lieb,
Sie konnten beisammen nicht kommen,
Das Wasser war viel zu tief.

Lieb Herze, kannst du nicht schwimmen?
Lieb Herze so schwimme zu mir;
Zwei Kerzen will ich anzünden,
Und die sollen leuchten dir.

Da saß eine falsche Nonne,
Die thät, als wenn sie schlief,
Die thät die Kerzen auslöschen,
Der Jüngling ertrank so tief.

Da hört man Glocken läuten,
Da hört man Jammer und Noth;
Da liegen zwei Königskinder,
Die sind all beide todt.

Qui s'aimaient tant ;
Ils ne pouvaient se rejoindre,
L'eau était bien trop profonde.

Cher cœur, ne peux-tu pas nager ?
Cher cœur, nage donc vers moi ;
J'installerai trois chandelles
Qui pourront t'éclairer.

Une fausse nonne s'assit là,
Et fit semblant de dormir,
Elle éteignit les bougies
Et le garçon coula au fond.

 ... 

Alors on entendit sonner les cloches,
Alors on entendit pleurs et détresse ;
Deux enfants de roi sont étendus là,
Tous deux sont morts.
