Droben stehet die Kapelle,
Schauet still ins Tal hinab,
Drunten sitzt bei Wies' und Quelle
Froh und hell der Hirtenknab'.
Traurig tönt das Glöcklein nieder,
Schauerlich der Leichenchor;
Stille sind die frohen Lieder,
Und der Knabe lauscht empor.
Droben bringt man sie zu Grabe,
Die sich freuten in dem Tal.
Hirtenknabe, Hirtenknabe!
Dir auch singt man dort einmal.

De kapel staat hoog, sinds tijden,
Kijkend stil naar 't dal omlaag;
Onder zingt, bij bron en weiden,
Helder, blij de herdersknaap.
't Klokje sprenkelt droeve tonen,
Huiv'ring wekt het uitvaartkoor,
't Blij gezang liet zich onttronen,
En de jongen spitst het oor.
Boven draagt men hen ten grave,
Die hier leefden, 't dal getrouw.
Jonge herder, rijk aan gaven,
Ooit zingt men daar ook voor jou.
