Es grünt ein Nußbaum vor dem Haus,
Luftig,
Duftig
Breitet er blättrig die Äste aus.
Viel liebliche Blüten stehen dran;
Linde
Winde
Kommen, sie herzlich zu umfahn.
Es flüstern je zwei zu zwei gepaart,
Neigend,
Beugend
Zärtlich zum Kusse die Häuptchen zart.
Sie flüstern von meinem Mägdlein, das
Dächte
Nächte,
Tagelang, wüsste, ach! selber nicht was.
...
Das Mägdlein horcht, es rauscht im Baum;
Sehnend,
Wähnend
Sinkt es lächelnd in Schlaf und Traum.

Un vert noyer est devant la maison,
Odorant,
Aéré
Il étend ses branches feuillues,
Il porte une suave floraison ;
Doux
Vents
Venez, câlins flotter tout autour.
On murmure, deux à deux les couples
Inclinent,
Penchent
Délicatement leurs têtes pour un tendre baiser.
Ils parlaient d'une fille
Qui pensait,
Durant nuit
Et jour,qui savait... hélas ! même plus quoi.
...
La fille écoute, l'arbre bruit,
Alanguie,
Rêveuse,
Souriante, elle sombre dans le sommeil et le rêve.
