Pierścień
(Sung text for setting by F. Chopin)

Language: Polish (Polski)
Our translations:  FRE GER
Smutno niańki ci śpiewały,
A ja już kochałem,
A na lewy palec mały
Srebrny pierścień dałem.

Pobrali dziewczęta drudzy,
Ja wiernie kochałem,
Przyszedł młody chłopiec cudzy,
Choć ja pierścień dałem.

Muzykantów zaproszono,
Na godach śpiewałem;
Innego zostałaś żoną,
Ja zawsze kochałem.

 ...

Dziś dziewczęta mnie wyśmiały,
Gorzko zapłakałem.
Próżnom wierny był i stały,
Próżno pierścień dałem!

Das Ringlein
(Sung text translation for setting by F. Chopin)
 See original
Language: German (Deutsch)  after the Polish (Polski)
Traurig' Schlaflieder sangen Kindermädchen,
Da schon hatte ich dich lieb,
Auf deinen linken kleinen Finger
Streifte ich einen Silberring.

Derweil manch einer sich vermählte,
Habe ich dich treu geliebt,
Da kam ein fremder junger Mann,
Wiewohl ich einst dir gab den Ring.

Musikanten spielten auf,
Ich selber sang auf deiner Hochzeit,
Bist die Frau nun eines andern,
Immer hatte ich dich lieb.

 ...

Noch heute spotten mein die Mädchen,
Und ich weine bitterlich,
Vergebens war ich treu und stetig,
Vergebens gab ich dir den Ring.

Note: the text above is taken from stanzas 1-3,5 of the original text.
