Wo giebt es wohl noch Jägerei,
Als wie im deutschen Land?
Der Franzos' hat sein Land überlichtet,
Nichts schonend die Jagd sich vernichtet,
Schiesst singende Vögel, der Fant!
In Engelland, da ist nichts mehr,
Als wie das Huhn zu Haus;
Fabriken klappern und stampfen,
Maschinen hämmern und dampfen,
Das hält kein Wildpret aus.

Die ernste strenge Jägerei,
Die kennen wir allein,
In Wald und Feld zu leben,
Vertieft in Ursprungs-Weben,
Ist deutsches Jagdgedeihn.
So trinkt darauf ein volles Glas:
Es lebe deutsche Jagd!
In Lust die Träume spinnend,
Und die Kunst, die Thaten sinnend
Die uns so wohl behagt!
Sie übt die Seele, übt die Hand,
Nährt Frische, Kraft und Muth:
Wenn's gilt das Reich zu wahren,

Waar wordt wel nog gejaagd zo mooi
Als hier in 't Duitse land?
De Fransoos heeft zijn land overhelderd,
De jacht, niet gespaard, is gekelderd,
Schiet zingende vogels, de kwant!
In Engeland, daar is niets meer
Dan slechts het hoen nog buit;
Fabrieken raat'len en stampen,
Machines haam'ren en dampen,
Dat houdt geen jachtdier uit.
...
De ware, strenge jachtcultuur,
Die kennen enkel wij.
In bos en veld te leven,
Verdiept in oorsprongs weven,
Zo jaagt de Duitser vrij.
Dus drink daarop een goed vol glas:
't Is mooi hoe Duitsland jaagt!
Met lust, de dromen spinnend,
En die kunst, op daden zinnend,
Die ons zozeer behaagt!
Zij vormt de ziel en traint de hand,
Geeft frisheid, kracht en moed:
Bedreigen 't rijk gevaren,
Wij zijn met wapens zeer ervaren,
Proost, goed Duits jagersbloed!
