En Angleterre, il n'y a plus rien Si ce n'est la poule à la maison ; Les usines cliquettent et trépignent, Les machines frappent de grands coups et fument, Aucune venaison ne peut supporter cela. Ils nous empruntent les renards Pour les chasses à courre sur les haies et les champs ; Ce n'est qu'un amusement pour les cavaliers, La chasse serait dans sa dernière phase Si l'Allemagne ne la conservait pas. La chasse sérieuse et rude, Nous seuls la connaissons, Vivre dans la forêt et les champs, Plongé dans le tissu de notre origine, C'est la chasse allemande. Aussi buvez un verre plein à ceci : Vive la chasse allemande ! Ce plaisir qui file les rêves, Et cet art qui médite les actions, Qui nous plaît tant !
