Wie ist doch die Erde so schön, so schön!
Das wissen die Vögelein:
Sie heben ihr leicht' Gefieder,
Und singen so fröhliche Lieder
In den blauen Himmel hinein.

Wie ist doch die Erde so schön, so schön!
Das wissen die Flüss' und Seen:
Sie malen's im klaren Spiegel
Die Gärten und Städt' und Hügel,
Und die weißen Wolken, die drüber geh'n!

Und Sänger und Maler wissen es,
Und Kinder und and're Leut'!
Und wer es nicht malt, der singt es,
Und wer es nicht singt, dem klingt es
Im Herzen vor lauter Freud'!

Zij schudden hun lichte veren
En zingen en kwinkeleren
Naar de blauwe hemel, zo hel.
 
Wat is er de aarde toch mooi, toch mooi!
Dat weten de stroom en het meer;
Zij schild’ren in klare spiegels
De tuinen, de stad, de heuvels,
En de wolken, die reizen zeer!
 
En zangers en schilders weten het,
En ook weet het wel alle jeugd!
En wie ’t niet schildert, die zingt het,
En wie ’t niet zingt, hem klinkt het
In ‘t hart, ja, van pure vreugd!
