Sie trug den Becher in der Hand
-- Ihr Kinn und Mund glich seinem Rand --
So leicht und sicher war ihr Gang,
Kein Tropfen aus dem Becher sprang.

So leicht und fest war seine Hand:
Er ritt auf einem jungen Pferde
Und mit nachlässiger Gebärde
Erzwang er, daß es zitternd stand.

Jedoch wenn er aus ihrer Hand 
Den leichten Becher nehmen sollte,
So war es beiden gar zu schwer:
Denn beide bebten sie so sehr,
Daß keine Hand die andre fand,
Und dunkler Wein am Boden rollte.

Dans la main elle portait un gobelet
– dont le galbe ressemblait à son menton et à sa bouche –
Elle avait une démarche légère et sûre,
Pas une goutte ne tombait du gobelet.

Sa main était légère et ferme :
Il montait un jeune cheval
Et avec des gestes nonchalants
Maintenait en place sa monture frissonnante.

Toutefois quand de sa main
Il dut saisir le léger gobelet,
Ce fut pour eux deux bien trop dur :
Car tous deux tremblaient si fort
Que leurs mains ne se trouvèrent pas,
Et du vin sombre coula sur le sol.
