Freuden wollt' ich dir bereiten
Language: German (Deutsch)
Available translation(s): ENG FRE
Freuden wollt' ich dir bereiten,
Zwischen Kämpfen, Lust und Schmerz
Wollt' ich treulich dich geleiten
Durch das Leben himmelwärts.
Doch du hast's allein gefunden
Wo kein Vater führen kann,
Durch die ernste, dunkle Stunde
Gingst du schuldlos mir voran.
Wie das Säuseln leiser Schwingen
Draußen über Thal und Kluft
Ging zur selben Stund' ein Singen
Ferne durch die stille Luft.
Und so fröhlich glänzt der Morgen,
's war als ob das Singen sprach:
Jetzo lasset alle Sorgen,
Liebt ihr mich, so folgt mir nach!

Je voulais te ménager de la joie
Language: French (Français)  after the German (Deutsch)
Je voulais te ménager de la joie
Au milieu des luttes, du plaisir et de la souffrance,
Je voulais loyalement t'accompagner
Dans la vie sur le chemin du ciel.
Mais tu l'as trouvé toute seule,
La où aucun père ne peut aller,
À l'heure grave et sombre
Tu passas innocente devant moi.
Comme le doux frémissement d'ailes
Dehors, au-dessus des vallées et des abîmes,
A la même heure un chant passa
Au loin dans l'air immobile.
Et alors le matin s'illumina gaiement,
C'était comme si ce chant disait :
Oubliez maintenant tout souci,
Si vous m'aimez, suivez-moi !
