Die Abendglocken klingen
Language: German (Deutsch)
Die Abendglocken klingen,
das Tagwerk ist vollbracht;
es sinkt auf heil'gen Schwingen
herab die stille Nacht,
sie spendet süßen Schlummer,
versüßt uns manchen Kummer;
ein Gott im Himmel wacht
in stiller Nacht, in stiller Nacht.
Es leuchten Mond und Sterne
am hohen Himmelszelt,
aus lichterfüllter Ferne
bestrahlen sie die Welt;
dort thront der Heil'ge, Hehre,
ihm Lob und Preis und Ehre,
der unser Leben hält,
dem Herrn der Welt, dem Herrn der Welt.

The evening bells ring out
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
The evening bells ring out,
the day's work is finished;
on holy wings glides down
to earth the silent night.
She bestows sweet slumber,
sweetens much heartache for us;
a God in Heaven keeps watch,
in the silent night.
The moon and stars shine
in heaven's high dome,
from radiant regions far away
they give light to the world;
there reigns the Holy, the Most High.
to him be glory, laud and honour,
who holds our life,
the Lord of the world!
