O Mutterherz, dich drücke
Dein Schmerz nicht allzu sehr!
Nur wenig Augenblicke
Trennt uns des Todes Meer.

Dort angelangt, entweiche
Ich nimmermehr dem Strand:
Seh' stets nach dir, und reiche
Der Landenden die Hand.

Ma barque a mené le combat
contre les flots déchaînés.
J’aperçois l’empreinte du ciel,
la fureur de la mer retombe.

Je ne peux pas t’échapper
O mort que je n’ai pas mandée !
La fin de ma peine
c’est le début du chagrin de maman.

O coeur de mère, que la douleur
ne soit pas excessive ! 
L’abîme de la mort ne nous séparera 
qu’un court instant.

Arrivée là, je ne quitterai plus
ce rivage : 
prends soin de toi, puis tends la main
à celle qui a déjà accosté.
