Durch die Tannen und die Linden
Spinnt schon Purpur her und hin;
Will mich Wehmut überwinden,
Daß ich bald im Herbste bin.

Nimmer! denn vom Walde klingen
Märlein mir und Sprüchelein,
Die mir süße Tröstung bringen
Ob erstorbnem Sonnenschein.

Ja, erstorben ist die Sonne
Und ihr Strahl ist ohne Macht!
Dennoch spricht von ferner Wonne
Greiser Wipfel Farbenpracht.

À travers les sapins et les tilleuls,
Déjà le pourpre tisse en avant, en arrière ;
La mélancolie veut me dominer
De sorte que bientôt je serai dans mon automne.

Jamais ! car depuis la forêt retentissent
Des contes de fées et des petits discours,
Qui m'apportent un doux réconfort
En dépit de l'éclat du soleil mourant.

Oui, le soleil s'est éteint
Et son éclat n'a plus de force !
Pourtant on parle encore de lointain bonheur
Dans la splendeur des vielles cimes.
