Wie in der Waldnacht [zwischen den Schlüften]1
Plötzlich die Täler sonnig sich klüften,
Funkeln die Ströme, rauscht himmelwärts
Blühende Wildnis - so ist mein Herz!

Ik heb een schatje lief, echt van harte

Zwart is de bosnacht tussen ravijnen,
Plots’ling doet zonlicht dalen verschijnen,
Fonk’len rivieren, de ruigte tart
Bloeiend de hemel – zo is mijn hart!
 
Als van ’t gebergte de zee t’ aanschouwen,
Zoals de zeevalk, hangend in ’t blauwe,
Roept naar de aarde, dat schemerend spook,
Zo diep onpeilbaar is liefde ook!
