Nadevajet li sumku nevolja, Neokhota li vzjat'sja za trud, — Tjazhela i gor'ka tvoja dolja, Besprijutnyj, oborvannyj ljud! Ne otkazhut tebe v podajan'e, Ne umrjosh' ty bez krova zimoj, — Zhal' razumnoje Bozh'e sozdan'e, Cheloveka v grjazi i s sumoj! No bedneje i khuzhe jest' nishchij: Ne pojdjot on prosit' pod oknom, Celyj vek, iz odezhdy da pishchi, On rabotajet noch'ju i dnjom. Spit v lachuzhke, na grjaznoj solome, Bogatyr' v bezyskhodnoj bede, Krepche kamnja v nesnosnoj istome, Krepche medi v krovavoj nuzhde. Po smert' zjorna on v zemlju brosajet. Po smert' zhnjot, a nuzhda prodajot; O njom oblako sljozy ronjajet. Pro tosku jego burja pojot.
