Els boscos s’han acolorit; grocs són els camps de rostolls, i comença la tardor. Les fulles vermelles cauen, la boira gris bandereja, el vent bufa més fred. Els raïms reblerts des del fullatge dels ceps purpuris resplendeixen; al camp hi maduren els préssecs amb franges pintades de vermell i blanc. Guaita! Com aquí la noia, diligent, fica prunes i peres al seu cistellet; allà, amb passos lleugers, aquelles, porten codonys daurats a la masia! Els mossos àgils saltironegen, i les noies canten, tots es gauben contents! Cintes de colors voleien, enmig de ceps abrinats, als barrets de palla! Sona el violí i la flauta al capvespre i a la llum de la lluna; joves vinyateres fan signes i comencen en rotllana una dansa alemanya.
