[Schlummre sanft! - Noch]1 an dem Mutterherzen Fühlst du nicht des Lebens Qual und Lust; Deine Träume kennen keine Schmerzen, Deine Welt ist deiner Mutter Brust. Ach! wie süß träumt man die frühen Stunden, Wo man von der Mutterliebe lebt. Die Erinnerung ist mir entschwunden, Ahndung bleibt es nur, die mich durchbebt. Drey Mahl darf der Mensch so süß erwarmen, Drey Mahl [ist's]2 dem Glücklichen erlaubt, Daß er in der Liebe Götterarmen An des Lebens höh're Deutung glaubt. Liebe gibt ihm ihren ersten Segen, Und der Säugling blüht in Freud' und Lust. Alles lacht dem frischen Blick entgegen, Liebe hält ihn an der [Mutterbrust]3. Wenn sich dann der schöne Himmel trübte, Und es wölkt sich nun des Jünglings Lauf: Da, zum zweyten Mahl, nimmt als Geliebte Ihn die Lieb' in ihre Arme auf. Dorm dolçament! Restant al cor de la mare no percebràs el sofriment i el desig de la vida; els teus somnis no coneixen el dolor, el teu món és el pit de la teva mare. Ai! Que dolçament hom somia a les hores primerenques en les que hom viu de l’amor matern. Per a mi el record s’ha esvanit, tan sols en resta un averany que em fa fremir. Tres vegades pot l’home ser refocil•lat tan dolçament, tres vegades està permès a l’afortunat que, en els divins braços de l’amor, creu que la vida té un designi elevat. L’amor li dóna la seva primera benedicció i el nodrissó creix en la joia i el delit. Tot somriu a l’encontre del novell esguard, l’amor el manté al pit de la mare. Però quan el meravellós cel s’enterboleix i el decurs del jovencell s’ennuvola, llavors, per segona vegada, com una amant, l’amor l’acull als seus braços. Però en la tempesta la tija de la flor es trenca, i en la tempesta es trenca el cor dels humans: llavors apareix l’amor com l’àngel de la mort i se l’emporta amb gaubança cap al cel.
