Meine fröhliche Liebe hat mich verlassen.
Ich suchte sie wieder in allen Gassen,
Sie aber lag schon weit von mir
In einem hellen Birkenwald
Und freute sich ihrer Wohlgestalt
Und reckte die Glieder lang und zier.

Dort spielt sie nun mit Elf und Nick,
Läßt über ihr schneeweiß Genick
Die langen Ringelhaare fließen,
Pflückt Enzian zum Zeitvertreib
Und läßt sich nachts den blanken Leib
Mit Mondenschein begießen.

Ich aber warte nun in Ruh,
Schließ Tür und Laden sorglich zu
Und leg mich in die kühlen Kissen.
Wenn sie der grünen Tage satt
Den Weg zurück gefunden hat,
Soll sie erst klopfen müssen.

Mon joyeux amour m'a quitté

Mon joyeux amour m'a quitté.
Je l'ai cherchée par toutes les ruelles,
Mais elle était déjà loin de moi
Dans un clair bois de bouleaux
Et se réjouissait de ses belles formes,
Et étirait ses longs et jolis membres.

Là-bas elle ne jouait qu'avec elfes et ondines,
Sur sa nuque blanche comme neige
Laissait couler ses long cheveux bouclés,
Cueillait des gentianes pour passer le temps
Et la nuit, au clair de lune
Bassinait son corps étincelant.

Mais maintenant j'attends dans le calme,
Ferme porte et volet avec soin
Et me couche dans de froids coussins.
Quand elle sera saturée de ses jours verts
Et qu'elle aura retrouvé le chemin,
