Abschied

Unangeklopft ein Herr tritt Abends bei mir ein:
»Ich habe die Ehr', Ihr Rezensent zu sein!«
Sofort nimmt er das Licht in die Hand,
besieht lang meinen Schatten an der Wand,
rückt nah und fern: »Nun, lieber junger Mann,
sehn Sie doch gefälligst mal 
Ihre Nas' so von der Seite an!
Sie geben zu, daß das ein Auswuchs is'.«
Das? Alle Wetter - gewiß!
Ei Hasen! ich dachte nicht, all' mein Lebtage nicht,
daß ich so eine Weltsnase führt' im Gesicht!

Der Mann sprach noch [Verschiedenes]1 hin und her,
ich weiß, auf meine Ehre, nicht mehr;
meinte vielleicht, ich sollt' ihm beichten.
Zuletzt stand er auf; ich tat ihm leuchten.
Wie wir nun an der Treppe sind,
da geb' ich ihm, ganz frohgesinnt,
einen kleinen Tritt, 
nur so von hinten aufs Gesäße mit -
alle Hagel! ward das ein Gerumpel,
ein Gepurzel, ein Gehumpel!
Dergleichen hab' ich nie gesehn, 
all' mein Lebtage nicht gesehn
einen Menschen so rasch die Trepp' hinabgehn!

Comiat

Sense picar a la porta, un home entrà a casa meva:
“Tinc l’honor de ser el vostre crític!” em digué.
Tot seguit, agafà el llum amb la mà,
examinà llargament la meva ombra a la paret,
s’apropà i reculà: “Doncs bé, jove,
mireu si us plau,
el vostre nas, així de costat!
Ha d’admetre que és una diformitat.”
Què? Caram – certament ho és!
Déu meu! En tota la meva vida no havia pensat mai
que portava al rostre un nas d’aquesta grandària!

L’home seguí parlant de coses diverses a tort i a dret
i, paraula d’honor, no recordo què més em digué;
potser esperava que jo li donaria la raó.
Finalment s’aixecà i jo li vaig fer llum fins a la porta.
Quan érem al replà de l’escala,
joiosament li vaig donar
una puntada de peu
pel darrera, a les natges –
vatua! quin terrabastall,
quines tombarelles, quin ranquejar!
En tota la meva vida
no havia vist res d’igual,
un home baixar l’escales tan de pressa!
