Jeg kunde juble for alle Vinde
min Glæde ud! Vil man den forstå?
Nei, bedst jeg varsomt den lukker inde
her hos mig selv i mit Hjertes Vrå.

Mit Hjerte brænder, det bæver, banker
i Takten, o, til en Jubelsang!
Mit Hoved gløder af Vårens Tanker.
Hvor vild og lystelig deres Gang.

Foran mit Øre det bruser, sjunger
som Tonerne fra et Englekor.
Med tusind sladrende, søde Tunger,
det røber mig, hvad i Fremtid bor.

Ak! tør jeg tro det! Jeg vil så gjerne.
Hvor Håbet flammer og kaster Skin!
Ud fra det tause, det dunkle Fjerne
en Stjerne stråler - og det er min!

Ich könnt’ verkünden in alle Winde
die Freude, die mir im Herzen presst.
Würd’ man verstehen, was ich empfinde?
Nein! Daher sei sie verschlossen fest.

Mein Herz ist am Brennen, Zittern, Rasen; 
stimmt ein in Lenzes Jubelgesang.
Mir schwirrt der Kopf, ich kann nicht fassen
des Frühlings ausgelassenen Gang.

Ich höre sein Brausen und sein Singen,
es tönt und klingt wie ein Engelschor:
Aus tausend süßen Zungen und Stimmen
leuchtet des Frühlings Zukunft hervor.

Ich wag’s zu glauben, ich glaub’ es gerne:
wo Hoffnung flammt, wirft sie ihren Schein!
Und aus der schweigenden, dunklen Ferne
strahlt glänzend ein Stern - und der ist mein!
