las leves ondas que jugando riza;
el sol besa a la nube en occidente 
y de púrpura y oro la matiza;
la llama en derredor del tronco ardiente 
por besar a otra llama se desliza; 
y hasta el sauce, inclinándose a su peso, 
al río que le besa vuelve un beso.

Es küssen die leise aufseufzenden Lüfte
die leichten Wellen, dass sie spielend sich kräuseln;
und die Abendsonn’ küsst die Wolke im Westen,
bemalt sie in purpurnen, goldenen Tönen.
Die feurigen Strahlen umzingeln die Stämme 
wie Flammen, die suchen, die andern zu küssen;
die Weide, gebeugt unter eigener Schwere,
küsst gar den Fluss, der diesen erwidert.
