Schmerzen
Language: German (Deutsch)

Sonne, weinest jeden Abend
Dir die schönen Augen rot,
Wenn im Meeresspiegel badend
Dich erreicht der frühe Tod;
Doch erstehst in alter Pracht,
Glorie der düstren Welt,
Du am Morgen neu erwacht,
Wie ein stolzer Siegesheld!
Ach, wie sollte ich da klagen,
Wie, mein Herz, so schwer dich sehn,
Muß die Sonne selbst verzagen,
Muß die Sonne untergehn?
Und gebieret Tod nur Leben,
Geben Schmerzen Wonne nur:
O wie dank ich, daß gegeben
Solche Schmerzen mir Natur!

Pesares
Language: Spanish (Español)  after the German (Deutsch)
Sol, que cada atardecer lloras
hasta enrojecer tus bonitos ojos
cuando, bañándote en el resplandeciente mar,
te alcanza la temprana muerte;
pero resurges en tu antiguo esplendor,
como gloria de este lúgubre mundo,
despertando nuevamente cada mañana,
cual orgulloso y triunfador héroe.
¡Ay! ¿Cómo puedo entonces lamentarme,
cómo, corazón mío, estás tan apesadumbrado,
si el sol mismo debe desistir,
debe hundirse?
Si la muerte solo alumbra vida,
si alumbran los pesares tan solo dichas,
¡oh, cuán agradecido estoy entonces
pues la naturaleza me ha dado tales pesares!
