This is the hour when the meadow, trees and flowers sigh out their fragrance in the sweet and mournful air. The berries of the dark ivy where the shadow meditates feel the coming of evening and lie down in their leaves, the fountain in the garden, which shoots up and then falls, makes its refreshing noise in the bright pool; in the weakening daylight the peaceful house breathes in the little orange-trees flowering in their tubs. The foliage drinking the vapours of the pond, fatigued by the fires of the day, calms down and relaxes. - Gradually the house half-opens its windows letting in all the living perfumed evening, and like the house, my heart, leaning on the horizon fills with shade, with peace, with dream and with freshness...
