by Johan Sebastian Cammermeyer Welhaven (1807 - 1873)
Translation by Edmund Lobedanz (1820 - 1882)

Norwegische Frühlingsnacht
Language: German (Deutsch)  after the Norwegian (Bokmål)
Our translations:  ENG
Lenznacht, so still und so kühl,
Schmiegst dich an Täler so schwül!
Liebliche Töne klingen,
Sag, was bedeutet das Singen?

    Elfen grüßen ihre
    Süßen weiße Lilien,
    Laßt's zum Herzen dringen!

Lichtglanz auf schneeiger Höh
Zeigt, daß der Mond in der Näh!
Über die düsteren Tannen
Schweben die Wolken von dannen.

    Sieh den holden Lenz
    Vergolden Berg und Tale,
    Rings die Nacht verbannen!

Ach, in der Stille der Nacht,
Klingen mir Töne so sacht,
Alte vergess'ne Lieder
Regen im Herzen sich wieder.

    Solche Bilder machen
    Milder deine Leiden,
    Heilen deine Wunden!
