Peu m'importe que fleurisse
L'arbre des espoirs détruits,
Si Dieu veut qu'il se flétrisse,
Sans jamais porter des fruits.

On dit l'amour une ivresse!
Moi je plains ceux qu'il oppresse.
Voyez les pauvres amants
Dans leurs éternels tourments!

Nuit et jour leur coeur se noie
Dans les soupirs et les pleurs!
L'un soupire de sa joie
Et l'autre de ses douleurs.

The unhappy one
Language: English  after the French (Français)
It matters not to me whether
The tree of ruined hopes blossoms,
If God wishes it to wither
Without ever bearing fruit.

They say love is intoxication!
But I pity those it oppresses.
Look at the poor lovers
In their eternal torment!

Day and night their hearts are drowning
In sighs and tears!
One sighs with joy,
And the other with sorrow.
