Als ich zuerst Dich küßte
Language: German (Deutsch)
Available translation(s): ENG
Als ich zuerst Dich küßte,
Blühten die Thale so reich,
Dann, als der Lenz ging zur Rüste,
Sanken die Blüthen vom Zweig.
Tiefer drauf neigten die Aeste
Sich unter goldener Last,
Schnäbelnde Tauben im Neste
Hielten wir selige Rast;
Sahn nicht, wie früchtegebogen
Senkte die Zweige der Baum,
Wochen und Monde entflogen
Lenz uns und Sommer wie Traum.

When I first kissed you
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
When I first kissed you
The valleys bloomed so richly,
Then, when spring drew to a close,
The blossoms drifted down from the branch.
Thereupon the branches inclined
Further under a golden burden,
Like doves billing and cooing in their nest
We rested joyfully;
We did not see how, fruit-laden,
The tree bent down its branches,
Weeks and months, spring and summer
Flew by for us like a dream.
Translated title(s):
