Auf dem Strom
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  CAT CHI CHI DUT ENG FRE ITA
Nimm die letzten Abschiedsküsse,
Und die wehenden, die Grüße,
Die ich noch ans Ufer sende
Eh' Dein Fuß sich scheidend wende!
Schon wird von des Stromes Wogen
Rasch der Nachen fortgezogen,
Doch den [thränendunklen]1 Blick
Zieht die Sehnsucht stets zurück!

Und so trägt mich denn die Welle
Fort mit unerflehter Schnelle.
Ach, schon ist die Flur verschwunden
Wo ich selig Sie gefunden!
Ewig hin, ihr Wonnetage!
Hoffnungsleer verhallt die Klage
Um das schöne Heimathland,
Wo ich ihre Liebe fand.

Sieh, wie flieht der Strand vorüber,
Und wie drängt es mich hinüber,
Zieht mit unnennbaren Banden,
An der Hütte dort zu landen,
In der Laube dort zu weilen;
Doch des Stromes Wellen eilen
Weiter, ohne Rast und Ruh,
Führen mich dem Weltmeer zu!

Ach, vor jener dunklen Wüste,
Fern von jeder heitern Küste,
Wo kein Eiland zu erschauen,
O, wie faßt mich zitternd Grauen!
Wehmuthsthränen sanft zu bringen,
Kann kein Lied vom Ufer dringen;
Nur der Sturm weht kalt daher
Durch das grau gehob'ne Meer!

Kann des Auges sehnend Schweifen
Keine Ufer mehr ergreifen,
Nun so [blick']2 ich zu den Sternen
[Dort]3 in jenen heil'gen Fernen!
Ach bei ihrem milden Scheine
Nannt' ich sie zuerst die Meine;
Dort vielleicht, o tröstend Glück!
Dort begegn' ich ihrem Blick.4

Sulla corrente
Language: Italian (Italiano)  after the German (Deutsch)
 Accogli gli ultimi baci di addio,
 E i saluti che ancora io
 Mando a te verso la sponda
 Prima che i tuoi passi tornino a lasciarmi!
 Già il battello è spinto lontano
 Dalla rapida corrente,
 Ma la nostalgia volge indietro
 Lo sguardo oscurato dal pianto!

 E così le onde mi portano via
 Con inesorabile velocità.
 Ah, già scompaiono i campi,
 dove , felice, la incontrai!
 Giorni di gioia, perduti per sempre!
 Senza speranza si perde il lamento
 Verso la bella terra natale,
 Dove trovai il mio amore.

 Guarda, come scompare la riva,
 E come vengo spinto lontano;
 Mentre segreti legami mi attirano
 verso un rifugio dove approdare,
 e riposare all'ombra;
 Ma le onde della corrente vanno veloci
 Sempre avanti senza sosta o riposo,
 e mi trascinano verso il largo!

 Ah, in quella solitudine oscura
 Lontano da ogni serena costa,
 Senza nessuna isola in vista,
 Come mi sento tremare di paura!
 Nessun canto ormai può raggiungermi dalla spiaggia,
 Per portarmi dolci pianti di malinconia;
 Solo la tempesta soffia fredda
 Sul mare grigio e agitato!

 E se gli occhi vaganti
 Non riescono più a scorgere la riva,
 Allora sollevo lo sguardo alle stelle
 Verso quelle sacre lontananze!
 Ah, sotto il loro gentile splendore
 Per la prima volta la chiamo mia;
 Là forse, o sorte benigna,
 Là incontrerò il suo sguardo.
