Hauch der Liebe ist das Lüftchen
Language: German (Deutsch)
Available translation(s): ENG
Hauch der Liebe ist das Lüftchen,
Das im Lenz die Wange küßt,
Hauch der Liebe Duft der Rose,
  Wenn sie ihren Kelch erschließt.
Hauch der Liebe schwellt die Quelle,
  Wenn sie still vorüberklingt,
Hauch der Liebe ist das Liedchen,
  Das der kleine Vogel singt.

Hauch der Liebe weht vom Äther
  Aus der Sterne Flur herab,
Hauch der Liebe weht im Sturme,
Lös't sich von der Wolke ab.
Mit der Liebe warmen Blicken
Lockt mich die Natur an's Herz,
Selig saug' ich ihre Küsse --
Und es lös't sich alter Schmerz.

Hauch der Liebe -- Gottes Athem
Weht dich, Herz, so heilig an,
Und die reinen, süßen Triebe
  Tragen sanft dich himmelan.
Ja, so lang ein Halm auf Erden
Durch den Hauch der Liebe blüht,
Werd' ich lieben -- lieben -- lieben!
Lieb ist's, was das All durchzieht!

C. Loewe sets stanza 1

A breath of love is the little breeze
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
A breath of love is the little breeze
That kisses my cheek in springtime,
A breath of love is the scent of the rose,
  When it opens its calyx.
A breath of love swells the water-spring,
When it quietly rings in passing,
A breath of love is the little song
  That the birdlet sings.

The breath of loves wafts from the aether
Down from the meadow of stars,
The breath of love blows in the storm,
  Separating itself from the cloud.
With the fervent glances of love
Nature entices me to her heart,
Blissfully I drink her kisses --
  And old pain is assuaged.

Breath of love -- God’s breathing
Wafts against you, heart, with such holiness,
And the pure, sweet urges
  Carry you gently heavenward.
Yes, as long as a stalk blooms on earth
  Through the breath of love,
I shall love -- love -- love!
Love is what permeates the universe!
