Als ich still und ruhig spann, Ohne nur zu stocken, Trat ein schöner junger Mann Nahe mir zum Rocken. Lobte, was zu loben war, Sollte das was schaden? Mein dem Flachse gleiches Haar, Und den gleichen Faden. Ruhig war er nicht dabei Ließ es nicht beim Alten; Und der Faden riß entzwey, Den ich lang' erhalten. Und des Flachses Stein-Gewicht Gab noch viele Zahlen; Aber, ach ich konnte nicht Mehr mit ihnen prahlen. Als ich sie zum Weber trug Fühlt' ich was sich regen, Und mein armes Herze schlug Mit geschwindern Schlägen. Nun, beim heißen Sonnenstich, Bring' ich's auf die Bleiche, Und mit Mühe bück' ich mich Nach dem nächsten Teiche. Toen ik stil en rustig spon, Zonder maar te stokken, Trad een knappe jongeman Op mij toe bij 't rokken. Prees al wat te prijzen was; Kon mij dat soms schaden? Mijn mooi haar dat leek op vlas En de vlassen draden. Rustig was hij niet, nee hoor, Liet het niet bij 't oude; En mijn draad die scheurde door, Die 'k had heel gehouden. En het vlas, zwaar als graniet, Spon 'k nog vele malen; Maar helaas, ik kon nu niet Langer daarmee pralen. Toen 'k het naar de wever droeg, Voeld' ik wat bewegen, En mijn arme hart, het sloeg Tempo honderdnegen. Nu de zon brandt op de wei, Wil 'k het goed gaan bleken, En met moeite buk ik mij, 'k Voel mijn rug haast breken. Wat ik in mijn kamer klein Stilletjes heb gesponnen, Komt -- hoe kan het anders zijn? -- Eind'lijk ook zich zonnen.
