by Adelbert von Chamisso (1781 - 1838)

Abend
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  FRE
Laß, Kind, laß meinen Weg mich ziehen,
   Es wird schon spät, es wird schon kalt;
Es neiget sich der Tag zu Ende,
   Und erst dort unten mach' ich Halt.

Wozu mir deine Lieder singen?
   Sie treffen mich mit fremdem Klang. --
Wie war das Wort? war's Liebe? Liebe!
   Vergessen hatt' ich es schon lang'.

Und doch, gedenk' ich ferner Zeiten,
   Mich dünkt, es war ein süßes Wort.
Jetzt aber zieh' ich meiner Straße,
   Ein jeder kommt an seinen Ort.

Hier windet sich mein Pfad nach unten,
   Die müden Schritte schwanken sehr;
Mein frühes Feuer ist erloschen,
   Das fühl' ich alle Stunden mehr.
