che mi attraversano il petto?
Tutti gli antichi desideri mi abbandonano
e mille nuovi fiori sbocciano.
 
Attraverso la luce incerta del pianto
vedo brillare lontani soli,
Quale struggimento! Quale desiderio!
Saprò osare? Potrò andarvi vicino?
 
Ahimè, cade giù una lacrima,
si fa buio a me d'intorno;
ma i desideri non fanno ritorno
e il futuro è vuoto di speranza.
 
E allora pulsa, mio ansioso cuore,
scorrete pure copiose, lacrime.
Ahimè, il piacere è solo un dolore più forte
e la vita è solo una tomba oscura.
