Ты, страшный Океан, твоих валов скаканье, Твой беспощадный рёв в полночной тишине И хохот яростный и горькое рыданье Мой смех и скорбный вопль напоминают мне. Люблю тебя, о ночь, тебе мои мечты. Но трепет ясных звёзд мне в душу льёт волненье, А я ищу лишь тьмы, лишь хладной пустоты... Du, wilder Ozean, dein Schwall und Sturz der Wogen, Dein Brausen, schaurig-hohl im Schweigen rings der Nacht, Dein Lachen sturmesschrill, dein Heulen langgezogen Weckt auf den wehen Hohn, der in mir weint und lacht. Dich lieb' ich dich, o Nacht, mein tiefster Traum bist du, Allein nicht Sternenglnz darfst du mir prahlend geben, Denn ich will Finsternis, die kalte, dunkle Ruh'. Doch selbst dies Dunkel lebt, erstaunt fühl' ich sein Weben Und seh' aufs neu gerührt Gewes'nes mich umschweben, Und Grüsse rufen mir geliebte Tote zu.
