Ach ihr lieben Äuglein
Language: German (Deutsch)  after the Spanish (Español)
Our translations:  ENG FRE
Ach ihr lieben Äuglein,
ach ihr blauen Äuglein,
gebe doch der Himmel,
daß ihr mein gedenkt!

Da ich kam zu scheiden
und zuletzt an deine Tür zu klopfen,
aus den Äuglein beiden
stürzten bitterliche Tropfen.
Ach! ein Todesleiden!
Wenn du schlafen gehst,
wenn du frühe auf vom Lager stehst.
Gebe doch der Himmel,
Daß du mein gedenkst!

Ach, daß ich nur wüsste,
wo nun deine Blicke sich ergehen,
daß ein Windeswehen
mir ein jedes Seufzen künden müsste,
künden, ob die jungen Brüste
noch so schmerzlich wogen,
weil der liebste Mann hinweggezogen!
Gebe doch der Himmel,
Daß du mein gedenkst!

Keine Stunde trüge
ich dies Schweifen so im dunkeln Schmerzen,
ohne daß mein Herze
nach dem Lichte seines Lebens früge.
Äuglein, wenn ich lüge,
bittet Gott, daß mich der Blitz erschlage!
Wenn ich lautre Wahrheit sage,
Gebe doch der Himmel,
Daß ihr mein gedenkt.

About the headline (FAQ)

Confirmed with Spanisches Liederbuch, by Emanuel Geibel and Paul Heyse, Wilhelm Hertz, Berlin, 1852, pages 145-146.

Note: in many older editions, the spelling of the word "Äugelein" becomes "Aeugelein", but as can be seen in how "über" becomes "Ueber" when capitalized, this is due to the printing process and not to rules of orthography, so we use "Äugelein".

Ah vous, chers petits yeux
Language: French (Français)  after the German (Deutsch)
Ah vous, chers petits yeux,
ah vous, yeux bleus,
puisse faire le ciel
que vous pensiez à moi !

Quand je viendrai pour le départ
et qu'à la fin je frapperai à ta porte,
de tes deux petits yeux
jailliront d'amères larmes.
Ah, ce sera une douleur funeste !
quand tu iras dormir,
