O Herz, sey endlich stille! Was schlägst du so unruhvoll? Es ist ja des Himmels Wille, Daß ich sie lassen soll! O hart, wil nu bedaren! Wat sla je zo rusteloos? Dat ik haar moet laten varen, De hemel dat verkoos. Al bracht ook je jonge leven Je niets dan waan en pijn, Had 't haar slechts vreugde gegeven, Dan zou 't verloren zijn! Hoewel zij dan nooit je liefde En nooit je leed heeft herkend, Toch ben je haar trouw gebleven En God heeft 't wel onderkend. Wij willen het moedig verdragen, Zolang we nog schreien van pijn, En dromen van mooiere dagen, Die lang al verleden zijn. En zijn er weer bloesems verschenen En zingen de vogels ook weer, Dan mag je wel heim'lijk wenen, Maar klagen moet je niet meer. Kijk naar de eeuwige sterren, Die hoog je daar glanzen ziet, Zij twink'len zo vriend'lijk van verre En denken aan ons toch niet.
