Ob Donner rollen, ob Orkane wüthen, Es wachsen frisch der jungen Freiheit Blüthen! Wenn "Freiheit! Vaterland!" ringsum erschallet, Kein Sang tönt schöner in der Männer Ohren; Im Kampfe, wo solch heilig Banner wallet, Hat sich der Mann das schönste Loos erkoren. El jovencell i l’arpista: El xiular de l’huracà anuncia la primavera, les ordenances dels exèrcits fan retrunyir la terra, i tal com els rius bramulen fora de llurs ribes, així sondrolla al lluny de fills d’heroi d’Alemanya: el cantaire segueix a través de tots els horrors ferotges, deixa ressonar el seu cant com la tempesta i les onades. Tant si retruny el tro, tant si bramula l’huracà, creixen vigoroses les flors novelles de la llibertat! Quan per totes bandes ressona “Llibertat! Pàtria!” cap altre cant sona més formós a les orelles dels homes; al combat, en el que aital sagrada bandera oneja, l’home ha escollit el seu millor destí. Visca la nació on ressona aquest cant! Glòria a l’heroi nascut d’aquest poble! Aviat florirà la primavera, aviat la daurada pau amb ventijols més suaus i cançons més dolces! Cor: Els ordes de cantaires no han pas de retrocedir vermells de vergonya quan les tropes de guerrers passen amb esplendor; llur cant encara no ha esdevingut una tonada despectiva, orneu-lo amb l’espasa, [amb la corona de llorer! [ [El rei: (a part) [Aquí amenaça traïció, aquí amenaça traïció! Cor: Els seus cants resplendeixen com flors al seu entorn, [la sobirana es complau en el joc juvenil. [La reina: [Et vols manifestar de nou [tu, la meva estimada vall natal? [Com en els feliços anys de joventut [apareixes avui una altra vegada! Cor: Els ordes de cantaires no han pas de retrocedir vermells de vergonya quan les tropes de guerrers passen en l’esplendor de les armes; etc. així doncs, amb agraïment, coronem-lo amb flors lluminoses, que canti una cançó que arbori tots els cors!
