Wenn Fortuna spröde tut,
laß' ich sie in Ruh',
singe recht und trinke gut,
und Fortuna kriegt auch Mut,
setzt sich mit dazu.
Doch ich geb' mir keine Müh':
»He, noch eine her!«
kehr' den Rücken gegen sie,
laß' hoch leben die und die
das verdrießt sie sehr.
Und bald rückt sie sacht zu
mir: »Hast du deren mehr?«
»Wie Sie seh'n, drei Kannen schier,
und das lauter Klebebier!
's wird mir gar nicht schwer.«
Drauf sie zu mir lächelt fein:
»Bist ein ganzer Kerl!«
ruft den Kellner, schreit nach Wein,
trinkt mir zu und schenkt mir ein,
echte Blum' und Perl'.
Sie bezahlet Wein und Bier,
und ich, wieder gut,
führe sie am Arm mit mir
aus dem Haus wie'n Kavalier,
alles zieht den Hut.

Le chevalier de Fortune

Quand la Fortune fait la prude,
Je la laisse en paix,
Et je chante fort et bois bien,
Et La Fortune reprend courage,
Et s'assoit à côté de moi.
Mais je ne me donne pas de peine pour elle :
"Hé ! une autre !"
Je lui tourne le dos,
Je bois à la santé de telle ou telle,
Ce qui la contrarie beaucoup.
Et bientôt elle s'approche doucement de moi :
"En-as tu encore ?"
"Comme vous voyez, presque trois chopes
Et de bière pur malt !
Ce n'est pas trop pour moi."
Alors elle me sourit :
"Tu es un vrai lascar !"
Elle appelle le garçon, réclame du vin,
Boit à ma santé et remplit mon verre,
Bouquet véritable et pétillant.
Elle paie pour le vin et la bière,
Et moi, à nouveau bien disposé,
La conduit à mon bras
Hors de la maison, comme un cavalier,
Et tout le monde retire son chapeau.
