Waldvöglein, sage doch einmal: Was sahst du von den Beiden, Die sich hier trafen im grünen Thal? Mögen sie sich wohl leiden? Sie gingen zusammen Hand in Hand Und blicken sich an voll Liebe Und sagten, wenn ich sie recht verstand: Ach, daß es doch immer so bliebe! Doch haben sie sich denn nicht geküßt Und sich mit Armen umschlungen? Ich meine, wenn Einer es wissen müßt, Wärst du's, der sie umsprungen. Ja freilich! ich sah sie im Geheg Sich auch zu Küssen vermählen, Mehr waren's, als ich Eier leg', Und drüber kann ich nicht zählen. Und weiter hast du nichts gesehn? Sie saßen im Moos nicht nieder? Mir kannst du's im Vertrau'n gestehn, Ich sag' es Keinem wieder. Ei du neugier'ger Fiedelmann! Denkst wohl, du hast mich am Zipfel? Mit Horchen kommst du bei mir schlecht an, Ich schwinge mich auf zum Wipfel.
