  Denn sie schlummern und träumen.

Droben am Himmel Stern an Stern
  In grenzenlosen Weiten;
Im Busen ach so eng, so bang:
  Drin Schmerzgefühle streiten.

Blüte! Am Kelche dir wonniglich
  Des Thaues Perlen hangen!
Ihr Tropfen, ihr strahlt euch mir
  In's Aug' und auf die Wangen.

  On the trees are scarcely breathing;
The birdlets too fall silent now,
  For they slumber and dream.

On the heavens above, star by star
  In the limitless expanses;
Such constriction in my bosom, ah, such anxiety:
  Painful feelings battle therein.

Blossom! At your calyx the pearls
  Of dew hang blissfully!
Ye drops, your radiance is in my eyes
  And upon my cheeks.
