Als Hauch der Gefühle, als Zeuge der Lust;
Ach [horch!]5 wie der Seufzer der Sehnsucht verhallt,
Wenn lieblicher Einklang der Seelen erschallt.

So, [Freundinn! ertönte dein]6 himmlisches Lied,
[Als Cynthia traulich]7 die Finsterniß schied,
Es wehte [mir Frieden mit]8 wonnigen Schmerz
Aus Schwingen der [Laute]9 ins fühlende Herz.

Ah, écoute comme le soupir de la nostalgie est retenu
Quand la douce harmonie de l'âme retentit.

Ainsi, amis, maint chant céleste s'est tu
Quand le feu de Cynthia a percé l'obscurité,
Il a chassé avec la paix la peine délicieuse
Sur les ailes du chant dans nos cœurs sensibles !
