Out into the greenery, out into the field! In God’s capacious world the powerful breast Breathes far more freely. As the little stars sparkle on the sky’s expanse, As the little roses smile with their crimson borders, Thus joy laughs within our hearts. Our cap wreathed with the green of the oak, Our eyes so clear, our brows so valiant, Thus we singers stride along. Round about, the winds breathe a kiss of welcome, We swing our caps with a friendly greeting And rhapsodize with a cheerful spirit. Away worries and labours, away trepidation and pain! For the rosy pleasantries of youth still play about us, The meadows still give off such a lovely scent. Love, it weaves us the most colourful wreath, Upon our brows a heavenly radiance limns itself, Our eyes beam with gold. Only briskly into life, only briskly into the day! As long as the sound of the lark still greets us, [Our song] rings forth from our hearts fully and loudly. As sunnily as springtime envelops the flowers, May our hearts be sunnily filled with rejoicing, May gaiety be our lovely bride!
